After much hoo haa… I was finally given permission for my year 10 Vis Com class to spray their Social commentary stencil designs onto the blank white wall outside the art room!
A fun morning had by all! The only constraint the students had with their design, was that it had to depict a social or political message that they felt strongly about. Issues ranged from teenage binge drinking, materialism, gay marriage and the role of technology in our current life style.
Everyone really embraced this project. They were given the opportunity to express their thoughts on a social issue and it wasn’t confined to their sketch books! Their work was displayed for all to see and interact with.
This project gave everyone a voice and they took great ownership in their work, often evident in students standing around discussing each stencil’s meaning.
