Yesterday I returned from a little trip to Sydney with my little sister Claudia. It was a lovely getaway because she was the perfect excuse to do lots of things and see lots of places that are I might have been scoffed at for going to as an adult.
Luna Park to name just one of many. Ah, the good ol’ crazy mirror.
One special part of this trip was seeing an exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum of one of my favourite childhood authors, Jeannie Baker. My favourite of her books, was a wordless picture book entitled Window. It beautifully depicts the life of a mother and her baby, who look through a window at a view of wilderness and sky as far as they can see. With each turn of the page, a year has gone by, baby Sam grows and the view changes, with the changing times.
The most amazing thing about her book is that each picture is a mixed media, ever- so- detailed collage. All the original collages used in Window, are on display at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.
