A big thank you to the lovely Dawn Tan for sharing her talents with us at the Zart Nurturing Creativity conference yesterday. It was such fun spending a couple of hours with Dawn, as she shared with us her creative processes in the creation of her whimsical food illustrations.
It was also a great opportunity to discuss materials and media and my discovery of the power of white ink! I’ve already ordered a bottle. I’m really looking forward to exploring water colour drawing more with my Visual Communication students. I love these workshops! Even though I’ve done water colour drawing before sometimes it’s the little discoveries (white ink!) that people like Dawn expose us to, that reignite the flame and make you revisit an old friend (aka the lonely box of water colour paints on the shelf).
Here are a couple of images from some of Dawn’s sketchbooks that are pretty great. I was thinking how a mini sketchbook of hand drawn foods would make a great little project for students. Will have to store this idea!
