I had a bit of an Op Shopping day with my 13 year old sister, Claudia, today. She wanted to find Golden Books with illustrations of children in them. She only found one but she did introduce me to an artist who I have taken a liking to. Her name is Sarah Jane.
Sarah Jane’s images are simple, naïve and leave room for the viewer to imagine their own story. This illustration was drawn with ink on paper, then digitally colored. The Kanji character translation is “Freedom.” Before my holidays end, *sigh* I’m going to try and do some things to feel a little bit more like the girl in this picture. Maybe a walk in the park tomorrow…
Of course I had to include a chair picture! What would your “Three Little Bears” story look like if you got to pick the furniture? Sarah Jane’s would look something like this. Her art seems to be an extension of her own childhood memories, mixed with the everyday experiences of her own children.
Have a look at more of her beautiful work on her Sarah Jane Studios Blog or at Sarah Jane on Etsy.
