I discovered an old box of marbling inks at school the other day, that looked like it had been there since the start of last century! I dusted it off today and gave it a whirl.. Not really the amazing results I was expecting but it was only my first attempt. Maybe the Year 12s will have more success…
All you do is fill up a shallow container with about 1cm of water, add the dyes and swirl around with a skewer. Then you float your paper on top, making sure not to submerge the paper. Wait a few seconds and then remove the paper. That’s it! (Make sure you don’t use waxy paper or the ink won’t adhere)
So I’ve now started to do all this marbling techniques research on the net and I found this interesting activity using shaving cream! Shaving Cream Marbling of all things! Oh, I love discovering new stuff like this! I’m going to try this one next week and I’ll let you know if it was fantastic or a total waste of shaving cream!
If anyone has done marbling before with really successful results or has an interesting idea.. please let me know!
Yes! Do the shaving cream paper marbling. It works like a charm; is cheap and gives fast results. Students are amazed at the finished product. Also makes the room smell great and cleans the art tables. I layer the shaving cream directly onto the tabletops. The marbled background is great for then making illuminated manuscripts or cutting into pieces and making some of the forms/shapes for texture houses w/ kindegarteners or 1st grades. Good luck!
