Everytime I see my uncle, he tells me about all of my grandfather’s paintings that he stored under his house, after he died. And everytime he tells me this, I ask him to show me some! So, he brought 3 of them to our New Year’s day lunch.
As a child I always thought Nonno’s paintings were amazing! Looking back at them now, I can see that they aren’t that amazing, but still great for someone who only started painting as an old man! One of my earliest memories of painting is creating an autumn leaf artwork at school, where I used real maple leaves to paint around with autumn coloured paints. I gave this painting to Nonno and I remember that he loved it so much, he put it in a frame and placed it on the wall. I was very proud.
Even though Nonno is no longer with us, his paintings are and the thought of them collecting dust under my uncle’s house, with no one to see them, is a bit sad. So, I’m going to try and get some photos of all of them and have a little tribute gallery on my site. I think that would be nice, don’t you?
loved your Nonnos paintings Adelle – you should frame them and hang them on your walls- now I know where your artistic skills come from= and I would still love you to have been my art teacher at school after seeing the wonderful lesson on abstract art with brown paper and paint = lucky kids!!!
