A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from a lovely lady over at Spotlight asking me if I’d like to help celebrate Spotlight’s 40th Birthday this year! To celebrate, I received a $100 voucher to pop over to Spotlight and buy a heap of stuff to make a very special craft project.
I’ve been wanting to make an Ottoman for aggggesss! What a perfect opportunity! So off I went to Spotlight to purchase all the things I needed. Keep in mind – I’ve never attempted this before and some of my instructions may be a bit off.
To make this you’ll need (of course you can alter this to suit your heart’s desire)
6 pieces of 60cm x 60cm square pieces of upholstery fabric
6 pieces of 60cm x 60cm square pieces of calico fabric
150cm length zip
40cm zip
cotton
LOTS of bean bag stuffing
Insert your 40cm zip on the insert bag.
I bought 1 bag of bean bag stuffing from Spotlight – this was NOT enough. Luckily, my school had a couple of abandoned bean bags that had I could use, so I used those beans. A tip from the lady at Spotlight? Insert beans in the bathtub (preferably an empty one!) That way, you can control the distribution of stray beans!
I chose these fabrics from Spotlight and decided to have 6 different designs on each side.
Cut 6 52cm x 52cm square pieces of fabric.
Pinning the zip around the 3 sides of the cover. This can be tricky – especially around the corners!
Once the zip is in, unzip a bit and stitch on the bottom! Make sure you unzip the zip so that you can turn it back the right way after you’ve stitched the bottom on.
Now, pop your stuffed insert in, zip up and pop your feet up!
A super big thank you to Spotlight for offering me the opportunity to make this!
How funky?? Good job del, love it!
