The idea of getting my Year 7s to design and create their own Greek Sculptures, came to me when I was having a chat with the year 7 History teacher during an assembly (Sssh!!). I told her that I had recently returned from a trip to Athens. She said that in a few weeks, the year 7s would be studying Ancient Greece. The timing was perfect!
I started by giving the kids a handout (featured above) with some images and bits of information on some Greek Gods and other notables. From this they got ideas about how to construct a bust and specific facial features.
Their mission was to create their own “God”.
We ended up with “Goddess of Rainbows”, “Goddess of Grapes”, “Goddess of Stars” and one of my faves, the “God of Bricks”!!
Can you guess what the other Gods are?
The one (second from bottom, on right) must be the Goddess of Pride and Prejudice. And one at the top…God of Punk…Sid Vicious!(showing my age!) They’re great.
