Plaster Relief Carving

Ok, so I must admit that I have never done any kind of relief carving and to be honest, I found it quite challenging! So, I’m going to give this a whirl with my year 11 class. Basically, I started by filling a small plastic disposable bowl with plaster and letting it set. I then used carving tools to carve out the features, of what is supposed to be a face.

The one I’m working on is obviously a work in progress and I honestly think that some of the kids in my class will come up with something a little more inspired than my design. Our theme is the human body. What results remains to be seen. I’ll keep you posted.
