Plaster Landscapes

This project took a lot longer than anticipated but I must admit it was pretty fun – and the Year 9s loved it (I think).
We basically created a landscape out of play dough, covered it with plaster bandage, removed the mould, filled it with plaster and removed the cast when it was set.

The plaster casts were then sanded (which took ages!) to a smoothish surface and then we added colour.

The great thing about this task was that the students learnt many different techniques through one project. They learnt how to model a 3D landscape, created a mould, mixed plaster to create a cast, carved and painted.

These pics are of a few of my faves. What do you think?
